Reflections for piano was written to “reflect” the style and music of Johann Sebastian Bach. It is written with original melodies based in part on the underlying pulse of the Andante Movement of Bach’s Violin Sonata No. 2 in A minor BWV 1003 as conceived by Aleksandr Siloti. Unlike the Bach and Siloti piece, the composition begins in D minor and then modulates to F Major in the second section. There are numerous modulations to near and related keys throughout the piece. While written in ¾ time the pulse of the piece follows more of a 6/8 time pace.
The work was composed from 11 February 2016 through 09 December 2016.
