The Sonatina in A♭ Major subtitled “Sonatine classique" was derived from an original sketch in 2011. Unlike the sonata form the sonatina has less development in terms of the classical structure of the A-B-A form. The current work attempts to follow the Sonatinas of the Classical era.

The first movement’s main theme is in A♭ Major with a middle section in F minor before concluding in the original key of A♭ Major.

The second movement is based on a baroque dance form termed “Passepied” with a central trio. The movement is in A♭ minor with the trio section written in E♭ Major before returning to the main Passepied theme.

The third movement is a Rondeau in B♭ Major and follows the classic rondo form.

The work was composed from 21 June 2016 through 09 November 2017.
